8 non-governmental organizations cease cooperation with the Supreme Council of Adjara in the format of the Open Governance Consultative Council

8 non-governmental organizations terminate cooperation with the Supreme Council of Adjara in the format of the Open Governance Consultative Council, - the representatives of the non-governmental organizations have already applied to the legislative body with this statement.

According to their assessment, the steps taken by the government make any cooperation in the format of the Open Governance Consultative Council impossible.

"Mr. Davit, the ruling political party (Georgian Dream-Democratic Georgia) broke the promise given to Georgian citizens, civil organizations, as well as strategic partners of Georgia and re-initiated the "Russian law". The law, which, like Russia, declares the democratic world in general, including the European Union, as a hostile power.

The ruling party holds the majority in the Supreme Council. In addition, an active campaign to discredit civil society has been going on for months. All this time, we have not seen any real signs that the majority of the Supreme Council of Adjara disagrees with Georgia's damaging steps. These actions may lose Georgia's historic chance to join the European Union.

The Open Government Council is a format based on cooperation between the government and the non-governmental sector. There is a difference of opinion for such a format. We may not agree on ways to achieve the goal, but we must be united by a common goal - Georgia's progress. Unfortunately, the steps taken by your team make any cooperation between us in the Open Government Advisory Board format impossible.

Based on the reasons presented, the signatory organizations are leaving the advisory group of the Open Government Council", the statement said.

The signatory organizations of the statement are: "Democracy Institute", "Green Sector", "Batumi Independent Life Center", "Youth Organization Changes for Equal Rights"; "Network of Democratic Engagement Centers" - Batumi; Institute of Civil Society - Adjara Branch; Eastern European Center for Multiparty Democracy (EECMD); Institute for the Development of Freedom of Information (IDFI).
